I was not going to join the chorus of 9/11 commemorations and if I didn't hear the following comment on the radio this morning I might not have mentioned 9/11 on this blog today. This is not to say that I was not affected by this event. I think 9/11 affected, not only the victims, but every human soul in the world in a way or another and for a long time to come. However, listening to the radio this morning, I heard something from an auditor which I thought was worth mentioning.
I only listen to the radio when I am driving. After I left my daughter this morning at the train station, driving back home, I tuned to Radio Canada French and the morning edition hosted by René Homier-Roy. He was asking his Quebec listeners the following question: 'what changes did September 11th bring into your life?' (Qu'est-ce qui a changé pour vous ou dans votre vie après le 11 septembre ?)
One listener gave an interesting personal perspective on 9/11. He said that before 9/11 he had only negative préjugés about Islam and Muslims and 9/11 incited him to look beyond his préjugés, he wanted to know more. By doing so he met a Muslim woman with whom he fell in love. He was able to see problems related to Islam from her perspective, this is not to say that 9/11 can be explained or forgiven, he added, but that the other perspective is often missing when discussing Muslims and Islam in the west.
Bref, 'Faites l'amour, pas la guerre'.

The 9/11 event was not about Muslims, nor was it about Islam, nor was it about the Middle East policies of the United States.
Those behind the events of 9/11 are a special group of "Islamic Revolutionaries," which are outside the mainstream of Islamic teachings. Their stated goal is to bring their brand of Islamic Revolution to the world. They believe such death and destruction is within Allah's plans for Islamic Revolution.
Many things can be used as excuses for such conduct, and many things can be used to recruit followers into such organizations but the real goal and objective is singular - converting the world to monotheism, with the only God. being Allah.
These Islamic Revolutionaries are not helping the Middle East. The Middle East has been a more dangerous place because of the actions of these groups.
Sadly, the world can not ignore the Islamic Revolutionaries because they are uncivilized people without moral values. They are perfectly willing to kill innocent civilian men, women and children.
The United States did no start a war with these Islamic Revolutionaries. The Islamic Revolutionaris started a wa with the United States. It is easy to blame the United States and their Middle East policy, but this shifts the focus away from the Islamic Revolutionaries and their world goal of creating a theocratic world order.
Resulting from the tragedy of 9/11, I too became more interested in globalized issues, leading to study, leading to worldliness, leading to my meeting the love of my life, my habibi. A quelque chose mal, il y a de bonheur.

When 9/11 happened it changed the path of my life in a much more personal manner, not just because it was the catalyst to the closure of a personal relationship but because it revealed to me what that person really stood for along with those who share that mind-set and I didn't like what I saw.
As for the event itself I was not entirely surprised. Although my Father had been dead nine years he had predicted this juncture based on his personal experiences of the ME gleaned from serving during WW2 and the post war politic which he was involved in forming to his sadness. It was fortunate that I listened.

It appears to me that you have learned quite a lot from your father. It is conforting to carry on with our own lives with solid legacies for judgement and decisions passed on by our parents. As for your relationship, you are now happily married. 'A quelque chose mal, il y a de bonheur' applies to you also...
