That would be the "only democracy in the middle east" at work again then.
Wolfie,
There are lots of stories of separation in Israel, notably between couples where one of them is in prison or between Jewish-Palestinian couples
The couple separation issue was illustrated in the world acclaimed movie by ramallah director Elia Suleiman 'Divine Intervention'.
Wolfie,
Sorry, the link to the article about Jasmine and Osama has died and I found the article 'The boundaries of Love', originally published in Haaretz, in the Palestine Monitor.
Thanks for the link Sophia. I can understand why the Israeli government would want checks and balances in these cases after all here in the UK its not uncommon for economic migrants to pay money in order to marry British women and gain British residency and a passport. However for a state to stand in the way of love between two people is one of the worst violation of human rights.
I guess I'm also a bit of an old romantic too.
Wolfie,
If you are an 'old romantic' then you must see Suleiman's movie.
The proportion of Palestinians affording to pay for citizenship gain couldn't be threatening to Israel. Moreover Israel is an immigration country but only for jews and this where such incidents can be considered as human rights violations because they are highly discriminatory.
