On Power, Detachment and Zen

Why Blair couldn't just act like Koizumi and quit in dignity ?
The answer is in the spirit of Zen culture and how it teaches detachment, I believe, while Catholicism teaches exactly the contrary.
Blair told the Labour conference today: 'It's hard to let go'

Hmm...

For once I’ll have to disagree with my favorite Canookie-Levantine philosopher: last time I checked, Tony was a member of the Scottish branch of the highly diverse “Church of England”…

The Scottish denomination is generally influenced by Calvinist and/or Methodist interpretations of the Bible (i.e. Old-Testament-based views reminiscent of Jewish theology or Western Canadian Protestantism), unlike say the Anglican/Episcopal “High Church” of England (or New York or Montreal) which tends to be more “European” or Catholic in its approach.

Victor,
I agree with the distinctions you lay out but Tony Blair converted to Catholicism.
Just as Cherie Booth brought her husband to Labour politics, so also she brought him to the Catholic church.

From The Guardian, Sept. 28th, 2004

''Tony Blair today is effectively a Roman Catholic, though he has not yet, to our knowledge, been formally received into the church.
The odd thing is not that he has embraced the Catholic church, but that he chooses to hide it. When asked directly, he replies evasively: "Surely being a Christian is what is important?"

Like so many, many more, Blair is a 'Counterfeit Christian'.

Richard, Balir is counterfeit in everything.
