As Israel Expands Settlements Only A One State Solution Can Still Achieve A Just Peace

The two state solutionis still theoretically possible but only theoretically. Zionist facts on the ground are making it presently impossible. And anybody who still defend this solution is either willingly or unwillingly blind or hypocrite. Where were they those who defend the two state solution against the one state for Palestinian and Jews when Israel willingly ignored international law ? Why are they just waking up today to the two state solution ?

A more likely alternative to the present debacle is one state, which is obviously the goal of Israeli leaders who insist on colonizing the West Bank and East Jerusalem. A majority of the Palestinian leaders with whom we met are seriously considering acceptance of one state, between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. By renouncing the dream of an independent Palestine, they would become fellow citizens with their Jewish neighbors and then demand equal rights within a democracy. In this nonviolent civil rights struggle, their examples would be Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.

biggest problem is the use of the word "nonviolent". Palestinians have been brainwashed that violence is the only way. Hamas likes to push people off of buildings.

It's time for Jordan to be recognized as the Palestinian state since the majority is Palestinian. Another solution is for Palestinians to resettle in other countries. Just like Americans, Russians, and Chinese people live all over the world, it's time for people to stop keeping the Palestinians in refugee camps.

A reference "One Country": from Ali Abunimah cofounder of EI.

Unfortunately what the Israelis want is one country without any Arabs. Me thinks, of course, one country whatever its name, why not Palestine-Israel and one nationality and two official languages. Of course equality would be an uphill struggle. But it would not be the first country to go through that.

a one-state solution is an example of the fantasy magical wishful thinking that has led to Palestinians living in refugee camps and blowing up their own teenagers.

Do you really expect Israel to give up its own existence when it has won every war except the Hamas victory of kidnapping Gilad Shalit?

Sophia - do you think it's a smart idea for a refugee family to stay in a refugee camp for 60 years? Look at conflicts between India and Pakistan, which occurred at same time as Israel creation. Pakistan evicted millions if Hindu people. These refugees did not stay in camps for 60 years.

The real tragedy of the middle east is that Arab countries have refused to accept Palestinian refugees.

Palestinians live in refugee camps because they are attached to their homeland more than any other people and they want justice.

Sophia - thank you for replying, but it's disingenuous to say Palestinians are more connected to their homeland than any other people in the world. They are political pawns used by Arab countries who do not have the decency to let them be citizens. The majority of Jordan is Palestinian. Why is it not considered a Palestinian state?

All the settlements need to be dismantled or the people living in the placed under control of the Palestine.

re: "they [Palestinians] are attached to their homeland more than any other people"

sorry, but this sounds racist to me. And does not sound fact-based since many Palestinians are from families based in Egypt, Syria and Jordan.

USA and Canada are full of Iranian, Arab and Palestinian refugees who - according to you - are less attached to their homelands. These smart people should convince the "more attached" Palestinians that it's a bad idea to stay in refugee camps for 60+ years and put suicide bomb vests on your teenagers.
